Krusceniski, Salomea (1873–1952)

Ukrainian soprano. Name variations: Krushelnytska. Born in Bilavyntsy, Ukraine, on September 23, 1873; died in Lvov, on November 16, 1952; studied in Lvov with Wysocki and in Milan with Crespi.

A Ruthenian dramatic soprano, Salomea Krusceniski was born in Bilavyntsy, Ukraine, in 1873, and made her debut in Lvov in 1893 as Léonore in Favorite. An admired Isolde and Elektra, her singing at Brescia in 1904 was largely responsible for the early popularity of Puccini's Madama Butterfly. Krusceniski retired in 1920.
