French actress. Born in Nimes, France, on October 26, 1938; children: Pauline Lafont (d. 1988, an actress).

Bernadette Lafont was born in Nimes, France, in 1938. Originally a dancer, she began to appear in films in the late 1950s and became associated with the French New Wave, particularly the films of Claude Chabrol who specialized in quirky thrillers. She is still a popular film actress in France and in European co-productions. Her daughter, Pauline Lafont , an actress with a promising future, was killed in a fall from a cliff in 1988, at age 26.
