Moszumanska-Nazar, Krystyna (1924—)

Polish composer and pianist who wrote numerous pieces for orchestra and chamber orchestra. Born in Lwow on September 5, 1924; president of the Cracow section of the Union of Polish Composers from 1962 to 1971.

Krystyna Moszumanska-Nazar studied composition under S. Wiecowicz and piano under J. Hoffman at the State Music College in Cracow. In 1964, she was appointed to the faculty of that same institution, eventually becoming a professor of composition and vice-rector. She also presided over the Union of Polish Composers in Cracow. Moszumanska-Nazar wrote extensively for orchestra, chamber orchestra, and piano. Her compositions were featured at international festivals of contemporary music throughout the world, and she also received numerous awards for her work, which has been characterized as densely dissonant in harmony.
