Nemenoff, Genia (1905–1989)

French pianist who was known for her duo piano work with her husband. Born in Paris, France, on October 23, 1905; died in New York City, on September 19, 1989; married Pierre Luboshutz (1891–1971), a pianist.

Born in Paris in 1905, Genia Nemenoff studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Isidor Philipp. After a successful Paris debut and tours throughout Europe, she married pianist Pierre Luboshutz, and together they established a duo piano team. Settling in the United States, they made a successful New York debut in January 1937 under the name "Luboshutz & Nemenoff." Their annual concert tours enabled audiences throughout the U.S. and Canada to become acquainted with the full range of the duo-piano literature. Nemenoff and her husband also taught; from 1962 to 1968, they served as joint heads of the piano department at Michigan State University.
