Canadian violinist. Born Kathleen Mary Parlow in Calgary, Canada, in 1890; died in 1963.
Born in Calgary, Canada, in 1890, Kathleen Parlow received her first musical instruction in San Francisco, California, from Henry Holmes, an English violinist. Her progress was so rapid that in 1905 he took her to London and exhibited her in concert as a prodigy; it brought her a command performance before England's queen, Alexandra of Denmark . Later, Parlow studied with Leopold Auer in St. Petersburg, and made her debut as an artist in the Russian capital in 1908. Her success was overwhelming. After touring extensively until 1941, she retired in Toronto to teach and lead her own string quartet.
