Timmer, Marianne (1974—)
Dutch speedskater. Born in Sappemeer, the Netherlands, on October 3, 1974; daughter of Lucas Timmer; coached by Peter Mueller; works on her parents' sheep farm.
Marianne Timmer of the Netherlands won a gold medal in the 1,500 meters at Nagano in 1998 with a time of 1:57.58, setting a new world record. The silver was claimed by Gunda Niemann , the bronze by Chris Witty of the United States. In the women's 1,000 meters, Timmer beat out her friend, the heavily favored Witty, for another gold medal with a time of 1:16.51, breaking Christa Rothenburger-Luding 's previous Olympic record. Catriona Le May Doan finished third.
