Negri, Maria Rosa
Negri, Maria Rosa, Italian mezzo-soprano; b. c. 1715; d. Dresden, Aug. 4, 1760. She became a member of the Dresden Court Opera in 1730, and subsequently sang in a number of Hasse’s operas. From 1733 to 1736 she also sang in several operas by Handel in London. Her sister, Maria Caterina Negri, was a contralto. After training from Pasi, she sang in Prague, Venice, and Naples. She also sang in operas by Handel in London (1733–37) before pursuing her career mainly in Italy.
