Casado, Carlos (1833–1899)

Carlos Casado (b. 16 March 1833; d. 29 June 1899). Born in Valencia, Spain, Casado immigrated to Argentina in 1857 and opened a business in the city of Rosario in Santa Fe Province. He also established a private bank that became one of the foundations for the offices of the Bank of London and the Río de la Plata that opened in Rosario in 1868. In 1870 he set up the Candelaria agricultural colony, promoting the immigration of European agricultural workers and realizing the first major export shipment of wheat to Europe. Casado organized a company of wheat mills, promoted the construction of docks in the Rosario port, and was a founder and president of the Banco de Santa Fe, a leading commercial bank. He was also elected counselor of the city government of Rosario.
