Casadesus, Gaby (b. 1901)
French pianist. Born in 1901; married Robert Casadesus (1899–1972, a pianist); children: son Jean (1927–1972).
A superb pianist who studied with the renowned Louis Diemer (1843–1919) at the Paris Conservatory, Gaby Casadesus enjoyed a career as a duo-pianist with her husband Robert that took her all over the world. Her recordings of his solo piano music have delighted both critics and listeners. Casadesus' recording of Gabriel Fauré's Ballade for Piano and Orchestra was one of the first to appear in the long-playing record format. Her life was marred by personal tragedy in 1972, the year in which both her husband and her son Jean died.
