Kahn, Tiny (Norman)

Kahn, Tiny (Norman) , jazz drummer, arranger; b. N.Y., May 1924; d. Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., Aug.19, 1953. He played harmonica as a child, took up drums at age 15, working with the school band. He was admired by musicians for his sensitive playing and fine writing, but died young due to drug problems. He played with Georgie Auld (1947), Boyd Raeburn (1948), Charlie Barnet (1949), Lester Young, and Stan Getz quintet (1951). He wrote arrangements for Barnet, Elliot Lawrence, and Woody Herman. He was a favorite in big bop bands of late 1940s-early 1950s.
