Kontarsky, Alfons
Kontarsky, Alfons, German pianist and teacher, brother of Aloys Kontarsky and Bernhard Kontarsky; b. Iserlohn, Westphalia, Oct. 9, 1932. He studied piano with Else Schmitz-Gohr and Maurits Frank at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik (1953–55) and with Eduard Erdmann in Hamburg (1955–57). With his brother Aloys, he won 1st prize for duo-piano playing in the Bavarian Radio Competition in Munich (1955); they subsequently toured throughout the world, giving performances of many modern scores. He taught at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik (from 1967). He publ. Pro musica nova: Studien zum Spielen neuer Musik für Klavier (Cologne, 1973).
