Volkert, Franz (Joseph)
Volkert, Franz (Joseph), Austrian organist, conductor, and composer, b. Heimersdorf, Bohemia, Feb. 2, 1767; d. Vienna, March 22, 1845. He was active as an organist in Vienna, and from c. 1814 until 1824 was deputy Kapellmeister at the Leopoldstadt Theater. He produced over 100 comic operas, Singspiels, melodramas, farces, etc., many of which were popular. He also composed church music, chamber music, and organ pieces.
