Barnsley, Ernest Arthur (1863–1926). Birmingham-born English architect, who was articled to Sedding, later entering into partnership with Ernest Gimson. He designed a number of buildings in the Arts-and-Crafts vernacular manner (some with his brother, S. H. Barnsley, including the Village Hall, Sapperton, Glos. (1910–14—with Norman Jewson (1884–1974)—an essay in the C17 gabled style). His largest building was Rodmarton Manor, near Cirencester (1912–26), completed by Jewson and held by some to be the last great country-house built in England.
