Bülow, Bernhard von, Prince
Bülow, Bernhard von, Prince (1849–1929) Chancellor of the German Empire (1900–09). Bülow was cautious and conservative in domestic policy, but his aggressiveness in foreign policy left Germany isolated and heightened the tensions in Europe that preceded the outbreak of World War I. In 1908 Bülow lost the favour of Emperor William II and was forced to resign.
