Talavera, Manuel (1875–1950)
Manuel Talavera (b. 8 December 1875; d. 27 July 1950), Paraguayan politician and businessman. Talavera was a dynamic member of the Colorado Party after the 1947 civil war from which the Colorados emerged victorious. A member of the right-wing Guion rojo (Red Banner), Talavera led his faction to victory in the aftermath of the Colorado Party convention in November 1947. The Guionists had actually lost the internal election by two votes, but Talavera's friend and presidential candidate, Natalicio González, also a Guion rojo, took control of the Colorado Party by force. After winning the February 1948 elections without opposition, González was sworn in as president on 15 August 1948. In February 1949 a group of dissenters in the party, led by Felipe Molas López, succeeded in overthrowing Gonzalez. Talavera's political career ended after the coup.
