Emmerich Joseph Dalberg (Emeric Joseph, duc de Dalberg) (ĕmərēk´ zhōzĕf´ dälbârk´), 1773–1833, French diplomat of German origin; nephew of Karl Theodor von Dalberg. The foreign minister of Baden, he entered (1810) the service of French Emperor Napoleon I, who made him a duke and a councillor of state. A follower of Charles Maurice de Talleyrand, he served (1814) in the provisional government formed after the fall of Paris and supported the recall of the Bourbons. In recompense he was made French plenipotentiary at the Congress of Vienna.
