Born Louise Alexandra Mary Irene on July 13, 1889, in Jugenheim, near Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany; diedon March 7, 1965, in Stockholm, Sweden; daughter of Louis of Battenberg, 1st marquess of Milford Haven, and Victoria of Hesse-Darmstadt (1863–1950); became second wife of Gustavus VI Adolphus (1882–1973), king of Sweden (r. 1950–1973), on November 3, 1923; children: one daughter died in infancy. Gustavus' first wife was Margaret of Connaught .
