Purpose: To enable scholars, advanced graduate students and others to spend an uninterrupted block of time doing research in theAAS library. Focus: American Studies. Purpose: To enable scholars, advanced graduate students and others to spend an uninterrupted block of time doing
research in the AAS library. Focus: General Studies. Qualif.: Applicants are not necessarily members of ASECS; must be an ABD graduate students or postdoctorals, holding the PhD or equivalent degree at the time of the application. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on: significance or importance of the project; appropriateness of the proposed study to the AAS collections.

AAS Fellowships for Creative and Performing Artists and Writers (All/Fellowship)
Purpose: To improve the ways in which an understanding of history is communicated to the American people. Focus: American History; Culture; Performing Arts; Writing; Filmmaking; Journalism. Qualif.: Applicants must have work for the general public which produces imaginative, non-formulaic works dealing with pre-twentieth century American history. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the quality of performed task.
Funds Avail.: $1,200. Number Awarded: 3. To Apply: Applicants must provide a cover sheet; two letters of reference; a current resume including a listing of any awards, scholarship, or grant received; a statement of not more than five-typed, double spaced pages briefly summarizing the applicants educational and professional background and goals, describing the research for the project including readings in primary and secondary sources, and indicating the nature of the research program proposed for the AAS fellowship; ten copies of representative samples of previous works must included for the distribution of the committee. Deadline: October 5.
AAS National Endowment for the Humanities Long-Term Fellowships (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)
Purpose: To enable scholars, advanced graduate students and others to spend an uninterrupted block of time doing research in the AAS library. Focus: Humanities. Qualif.: Applicants must have completed their formal professional training; maybe foreign nationals who have been residents in the United States for at least three years immediately preceding the application deadline. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on: significance or importance of the project; appropriateness of the proposed study to the AAS collections.

Criteria: Recipients are selected based on: significance or importance of the project; appropriateness of the proposed study to the AAS collections.

ACLS Frederick Burkhardt Fellowships (Professional Development/Fellowship)
Purpose: To support an academic year (normally nine months) of residence at any one of the national residential research centers participating in the program. Focus: Humanities; Social Sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be recently tenured humanists; must be employed in a tenured position at a degree granting academic institution in the United States. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the quality of the proposal and required qualifications.
Funds Avail.: $75,000. Number Awarded: 11. To Apply: Applicants must fill out the application form. Applicants must submit no more than ten pages, double-spaced proposal; no more than three pages bibliography; no more than two pages publications list; three reference letters. publication. Focus: History; Literature; American Studies; Political Science; Music. Qualif.: Applicants must have more than three years beyond receipt of the doctorate. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on: appropriateness of the project to the AAS collections and interests; likelihood that the revised dissertation will make a highly significant books.
