APDA Postdoctoral Fellowships (Professional Development/Fellowship)
Purpose: To support postdoctoral scientists whose research training holds promise into new insights of geriatric psychology, pathophysiology, etiology and treatment of Parkinson's disease. Focus: Geriatric Medicine; Parkinson's disease. Qualif.: Applicants must have completed their MD, DO, PhD, MD/PhD, DO/PhD or clinical residency program within two (2) years of the onset of the proposed study and must perform the research project at an academic institution within the United States. Criteria: Preference will be given to those who meet the criteria.
Funds Avail.: Up to $35,000. To Apply: Applicants must
submit the application form electronically. One (1) original and two (2) hard copies of the application should be submitted to the attention of Paul Maestrone, DVM, Director of Scientific & Medical Affairs for consideration by the APDA Scientific Advisory Board. APDA Research Grants (Professional Development/Grant)
Purpose: To provide financial support for junior investigators intending to pursue research in Parkinson's disease. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be affiliated with and perform the research project at an academic institution within the United States. Criteria: Selection of recipients will be based on merit.
Funds Avail.: $50,000. To Apply: Applicant's Research Grant application should be completed and submitted electronically along with one (1) original and two (2) hard copies of the completed application. Application packet must be sent to the attention of Paul Maestrone, DVM, Director of Scientific & Medical Affairs for consideration by the APDA Scientific Advisory Board. APDA Summer Fellowships (Doctorate/Fellowship)
Purpose: To provide a stipend to enable medical students to perform supervised laboratory or clinical research designed to clarify our understanding of Parkinson's disease, its nature, manifestations, etiology or treatment. Focus: Medicine. Qualif.: Applicant should be a full-time medical student in good academic standing in an approved American medical school. The proposed research project must be performed in an academic medical center or recognized research institute in the United States and be sponsored by a full time faculty member or established institute scientist. The project must be part of the sponsor's ongoing research and be performed under the sponsor's direct supervision. Criteria: Preference will be given to those who meet the qualifications.
Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicant's application form must be accompanied by a supporting letter from the sponsor; a letter of reference from another faculty member familiar with the student's previous academic performance and a letter from the Dean's office assuring the student is in good academic standing. Applications which must contain one (1) original and two (2) hard copies of the application should be submitted electronically to the attention of Paul Maestrone, DVM, Director of Scientific & Medical Affairs. George C. Cotzias, MD Memorial Fellowships (Professional Development/Fellowship)
Purpose: To assist promising neurologists in establishing careers in research, teaching and clinical services relevant to the problems, causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease and related neurological movement disorders. Focus: Neurology. Qualif.: Applicant must be a physician with an MD or DO degree who has completed clinical training in adult neurology, child neurology, neurosurgery, neuropathology or neuroradiology and demonstrates a promising career trajectory as a clinician scientist; should be in the formative years of career development and must not have achieved tenure status or been promoted to Associate Professor; must have an appointment at an academic institution located within the United States that has shown a clear commitment to the career development of the candidate; must be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident. Criteria: Awards will be given to those who meet the qualifications.
Funds Avail.: $80,000 will be awarded each year for three (3) consecutive years to support salary and research expenses. To Apply: Applicants must submit the following requirements: an abstract of the proposed study (150 words); a budget for each year; resources provided or to be provided by the sponsoring institution; other sources of funding, to include sponsoring agency, amount and award period (indicate how the other sponsored research complements or supplements the present proposal); two letters of recommendation (one from the applicant's institutional sponsor and one from an academic colleague with knowledge of the applicant's professional performance). Roger C. Duvoisin, MD Research Grants (Professional Development/Grant)
Purpose: To provide support funds for established scientists affiliated with research or academic institutions located within the United States and who presently not working on Parkinson's disease research. Focus: Neurology. Qualif.: Applicant must be a physician with an MD or DO degree who has completed clinical training in adult neurology, child neurology, neurosurgery, neuropathology or neuroradiology. Criteria: Awards will be given to those who meet the qualifications.
Funds Avail.: $80,000 per year for two consecutive years. To Apply: Applicants must submit the proposal requirements, (proposal should not exceed three pages); a brief abstract of the proposed study (150 words); NIH Bio-Sketch; and budget (a detailed budget should be submitted for the first year and a continuing budget for the second year).
