Charles Abrams Scholarship Program (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To aid students who will pursue careers as practicing planners. Focus: Urban affairs/design/planning. Qualif.: Applicants must be U.S. citizens, and must be accepted into the graduate planning program of one of the following schools: Columbia University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New School University and University of Pennsylvania. A nomination by the department chair is required. Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on the Selection Committee's review of all applications.

Funds Avail.: $2000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a letter of nomination; a one- to two-page statement written by the applicant describing their commitment to complete the planning curriculum of the university and to pursue a career in the planning profession, as well as an outline of the applicants' qualifications, extra-curricular activities, and reasons for believing that a scholarship award is justified; a financial aid application; official transcripts of all previous collegiate and academic work; an official copy of all GRE scores. APA Planning Fellowships (Graduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To foster increased minority interest in the study of urban planning at the graduate level. Focus: Urban affairs/design/planning. Qualif.: Applicants must be first or second year masters degree students; members of one of the following minority groups: African American, Hispanic American or Native American; citizens of the United States; enrolled or officially accepted for enrollment in a graduate planning program accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board. Recipients must intend to work as practicing planners in the public sector. Students must be able to document their financial need. Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement/improvement, letters of recommendation, financial need, professional presentation and geographic balance of awards during the particular award year.

Funds Avail.: $1000-$5000, depending on the number of fellowships awarded. To Apply: Applicants must submit a two- to five-page personal and background statement describing how their graduate education will be applied to career goals and why they chose planning as a career path; a completed and signed APA financial aid application; two letters of recommendation; official transcripts; written verification from the school's financial officer or copies of a school's publication or website indicating the average cost of one academic year; a copy of an acceptance letter from a PAB-accredited graduate planning school (incoming students only); a notarized statement of financial independence signed by the student's parents. Robert A. Catlin/David W. Long Memorial Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To foster increased interest among African American undergraduates in urban planning as a graduate field of study and as a professional career. Focus: Urban affairs/design/planning. Qualif.: Applicants must be African Americans who are rising juniors and seniors majoring in urban planning and related fields; must have a minimum GPA of 3.0; and must be full time enrolled students. Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on the committee's review of all submitted applications.

Funds Avail.: $2500. To Apply: Applicants must submit an application form; a personal statement; two letters of recommendation; one sealed Official Academic Transcript for each college or university attended; self-addressed, stamped postcard for notification of the receipt of a complete application. Deadline: October 30. Economic Development Division Graduate Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to those studying economic development and planning. Focus: Urban affairs/

design/planning. Qualif.: Applicant's must be Master's level students from PAB-accredited planning departments across the United States. Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on the merits of the application materials submitted.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a full-time faculty member and an original paper or work having to do with a substantive and relevant topic related to economic development and planning. Environment, Natural Resource and Energy (ENRE) Division Fellowships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial support for students excelling in graduate level studies in planning related to natural resources, energy or the environment. Focus: Urban affairs/design/planning; Natural resources; Energy-related areas. Qualif.: Applicants must be second year graduate students enrolled in an accredited graduate school planning program focusing on issues related to the environment, natural resources or energy. Candidates must also have a minimum GPA of B or 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and must be in a program or course of study consistent with ENRE's mission. The ENRE Division's mission is to promote sound environmental, natural resources and energy planning and sound resource use policies among individual members of APAand the general public, and within the planning profession and communities of all scales. Criteria: Recipient will be selected based on the quality of application materials and the connection of the student's course of study to ENRE's mission. Priority will be given to ENRE Division members.

Funds Avail.: $2,500. $1,250 for each of the two semesters. To Apply: Applicants must submit an application form; recommendation letter from the student's thesis/project faculty advisor; an 800-word description of the student's master's thesis or project, including how it relates to the division's mission; a 600-word essay describing interest in environmental planning, experience and future goals; a resume. Deadline: September 10.

Judith McManus Price Scholarships (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide partial funding for women and minority students. Focus: Urban affairs/design/planning. Qualif.: Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled in Planning Accreditation Board accredited planning programs. Candidates must also be women members of the following minority groups: African American, Hispanic American or Native American. Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, letters of recommendation, financial need, professional presentation and geographic balance of awards for the year.
