Henri Du Vergier La Rochejaquelein, comte de (both: äNrē´ dü vĕrzhyā´ kôNt də lä rôshzhäkəlăN´), 1772–94, French commander, leader of the counterrevolutionary army in the Vendée. His legendary gallantry and tactical abilities were of little avail against superior republican armies. He was killed in battle.
