Guglielmi, Petro Alessandro
Guglielmi, Petro Alessandro (b Massa, 1728; d Rome, 1804). It. composer. First of many operas perf. in Naples 1757; wrote 25 in next decade, several of them (e.g. La sposa fedele) being popular throughout Eur. Lived in London 1767–72, writing several operas incl. Ezio ( King's Th., 1770). On return to Naples, his output showed no sign of slackening and he also wrote oratorios. Choirmaster of St Peter's, Rome, 1793.
