Guhr, Karl (Wilhelm Ferdinand)
Guhr, Karl (Wilhelm Ferdinand) , German conductor and composer; b. Militsch, Oct. 30, 1787; d. Frankfurt am Main, July 22, 1848. He studied in Breslau with Schnabel and Janitschek. From 1821 he was active as a conductor in Nuremberg, Wiesbaden, Kassel, and Frankfurt am Main, winning the admiration of Spontini, Wagner, Berlioz, and other contemporaries. He publ. the study Über Paganinis Kunst die Violine zu spielen (Mainz, 1831). Among his works were operas, a Sym., concertos, and chamber music.
