Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to residents of Alaska who are attending a professional school in another state as part of the PSEP of WICHE. The fields of study currently available are dentistry, occupational therapy, optometry, physician assistant, podiatry, pharmacy, and physical therapy. In most cases, PSEP students pay resident tuition (or reduced tuition at private institutions) and their home state pays an additional support fee to the institution. Alaska requires PSEP students to pay the tuition and support fee, and provides these loans to enable them to do so.

Eligibility Requirements: This competition is open to students enrolled full or part time in a baccalaureate or higher degree health professions education program in a school that is affiliated, through a participating professional association, with the Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions (FASHP). Applicants must submit a proposal, up to 2,500 words, for 1) an innovative health promotion project focusing on a special population group, or 2) a disease prevention project for a targeted community. They must be citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States and attending a U.S. college or university. Papers may be entered in the single discipline category (for 1 or more authors in the same discipline) or the interprofessional category (for students from 2 or more different health profession disciplines collaborating on a single project). Proposals for new projects, as well as completed or currently implemented projects, are acceptable. They may have been developed to meet course requirements or as part of service learning or other academic experiences. Basic or clinical research proposals are not eligible. Students first submit their papers to a faculty sponsor or representative at their school; each school, college, or program selects 1 single discipline paper and 1 interprofessional paper and submits those to the appropriate professional association. Each association then selects up to 10 of its best papers to be forwarded to the program administrator, and a selection committee chooses 10 top entries for the single discipline category and 10 top entries for the interprofessional category. Selection is based on 1) clarity of problem statement, objectives, implementation plan, project significance, soundness of evaluation plan, and reasonableness of budget; 2) innovation in approach to health promotion or disease prevention; 3) feasibility of approach in regard to implementation of the project; and 4) potential impact on a community or target population. Final selection of winners is then made by senior staff of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Deadline for Receipt: Students must submit entries to their school by mid-February of each year; schools must forward winners to the respective professional associations by mid-March; associations forward their top entries to the program administrator in early April; semifinalist entries must be received by DHHS by the end of April. Additional Information: DHHS established this competition in 1982; since 1998, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing has administered the program on behalf of the FASHP. The cumulative debt maximum for graduate students, including all undergraduate and graduate loans, is $195,000 for allopathy, medical, osteopathy, and dental students, or $142,500 for all other graduate or professional students. The maximum residency loan is $12,500. Repayment begins 9 months after graduation. For borrowers who have paid a guarantee fee, the interest rate is 0.25% below the prime rate as published in the Wall Street Journal. Eligibility Requirements: This is a credit-based loan and is not based on financial need. Applicants must be 1) undergraduates studying acupuncture, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, or physician's assistant; or 2) graduate students working on a degree in allopathic medicine, cell and molecular biology, cell and molecular pathogenesis and cancer, clinical psychology, dentistry, neurobiology, neuropharmacology, nurse anesthesia, nurse midwifery, nurse practitioner, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, optometry, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician's assistant, podiatry, public health, vascular biology, or veterinary medicine. All students in approved health disciplines can apply if they are enrolled on at least a half-time basis and may borrow in their own name as credit-ready if they have good or no credit history and are U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens. Graduate students may apply as creditworthy or with a creditworthy coborrower if they have an established 2-year satisfactory credit history; have a stable residence and employment history; have sufficient current income to meet criteria; if self-employed, have been in business for at least 2 years; and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have lived in the United States for the previous 2 years. Residency loans are also available to fourth-year graduate students who need funds to cover the expenses of interviewing and relocating for internships and residencies. Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to students who qualify as Texas residents and meet the academic requirements of a public or private college or university in the state. Applicants must be studying for a graduate or professional degree in pharmacy, public health, medicine, dentistry, optometry, osteopathy, or veterinary medicine. They must be able to demonstrate financial need and enroll full time. U.S. citizenship is required. Additional Information: Applications must be submitted through the financial aid office at the college or university attended. This program is part of the Hinton-Hazelwood College Student Loan Program (HHCSLP).
