To provide financial assistance to Jewish undergraduates from Delaware studying in Israel or Jewish studies in the United States and to Jewish students from outside the United States studying in Delaware.

Title of Award: Joseph and Marion Greenbaum Scholarship Fund Area, Field, or Subject: General studies/Field of study not specified; Jewish studies; Religion Level of Education for which Award is Granted: Undergraduate Number Awarded: Varies each year. Funds Available: The stipend is normally $2,500 per year for study in Israel; $625 per year for graduates of Gratz Hebrew High School; or $83 per credit for Jewish studies or for foreign students in Delaware. Duration: 1 year.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to (in order of priority) 1) Jewish residents of Delaware who wish to attend a college in Israel as an undergraduate; 2) Jewish residents of Delaware who wish to major or minor in Jewish studies at a college or university in the United States; 3) graduates of Delaware Gratz Hebrew High School or other full-day Jewish high school in Delaware who are enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate college program in the United States; and 4) Jewish students from Israel or other foreign country who wish to work on an undergraduate degree at a college or university in Delaware. Residents of adjacent communities (Elkton, Maryland or the Pennsylvania towns of Avondale, Chadds Ford, Kennett Square, Landenberg, Lincoln University, or Westchester) are also eligible. Applicants must submit a brief essay on what they have learned or hope to learn during the proposed course of study and what they hope to be able to carry with them throughout their lifetime as a result of the courses. Selection is based on the essay, GPA, references, volunteer and community activity, and information about the study program abroad or the courses the applicant plans to take. Financial need is considered only if there are more applicants than available funds or if the applicant is seeking funds beyond the amount of the current guideline award; lack of financial need does not disqualify any applicant. Deadline for Receipt: July of each year for study during the fall semester or winter session; November of each year for spring semester or summer session. Additional Information: Recipients are required to participate in either the United Jewish Communities Campus Campaign or the Jewish Federation of Delaware's annual campaign.

Title of Award: Hebrew Ladies Sheltering Home Scholarships Area, Field, or Subject: Education, Religious; Jewish studies; Religion Level of Education for which Award is Granted: Undergraduate Number Awarded: 2 to 3 each year. Funds Available: The stipend is $1,000. Duration: 1 year.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to Jewish residents of Connecticut who are graduating high school seniors. Applicants must be interested in working on a degree in Jewish education. U.S. citizenship is required. Selection is based on academic record and financial need. Deadline for Receipt: April of each year.

To assist well-qualified individuals to train for careers in a field related to Jewish community service.

Title of Award: International Scholarship Program for Community Service Area, Field, or Subject: Education; Jewish studies; Religion; Social work Level of Education for which Award is Granted: Graduate, Undergraduate Funds Available: The amount of the grant varies, depending on the country in which the student will be trained and other considerations. Duration: 1 year; may be renewed.

Eligibility Requirements: The scholarship is open to any individual, regardless of country of origin, who is presently receiving or plans to undertake training in his/her chosen field at a recognized yeshiva, teacher training seminary, school of social work, university, or other educational institution. Applicants must be interested in pursuing professional training for careers in Jewish education, Jewish social service, the rabbinate, or as religious functionaries (e.g., shohatim, mohalim) in Diaspora Jewish communities in need of such personnel. Students planning to serve in the United States, Canada, or Israel are not eligible. Deadline for Receipt: November of each year. Additional Information: Recipients must agree to serve for at least 2 to 3 years in a Jewish-deprived Diaspora community where their skills are needed after completing their training.
