Title of Award: A.W. "Winn" Brindle Memorial Education Loan Program Area, Field, or Subject: Business; Fisheries sciences/management; Food science and technology Level of Education for which Award is Granted: Graduate, Undergraduate Number Awarded: Varies each year, depending upon the amount of contributions made to the fund by private donors and fisheries businesses. Funds Available: Loans are awarded to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, board, and transportation costs. An origination fee of 3% is deducted from the eligible loan amount. The interest rate charged is 5%. This is a partial scholarship/loan program; recipients are eligible for up to 50% forgiveness upon graduation if they return to Alaska to secure employment in a fisheriesrelated field. Duration: Up to 5 years of undergraduate study and up to 5 years of graduate study, or a combined maximum of 8 years of study. Recipients have up to 15 years to repay the loans.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students in Alaska who are interested in working on a degree at an accredited college or university that will lead to a career in fisheries, fishery science, fishery management, seafood processing, food technology, or other fishery-related fields. Applicants who have been nominated by program donors are given preference for receipt of funds. Additional Information: This program is funded by private donations and contributions from fisheries businesses in exchange for tax credits. A fisheries business is entitled to a tax credit of up to 5% of its business tax liability for contributions made during the tax year to this scholarship/loan fund. Businesses and other donors are encouraged to nominate individuals for receipt of these funds.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens of proven multicultural heritage and have at least 1 grandparent of multicultural heritage. Final selection of recipients is made by advertising agencies that are chosen as winners of Multicultural Excellence Awards by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA). For that competition, advertising firms submit samples of their campaigns that ran for at least 3 months and were directed at multicultural markets. Entries are submitted in 5 categories: African American, Asian, Hispanic, General (e.g., Native American, Russian, Polish), or Campaign with Significant Results. Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to 1) students in their junior year of a baccalaureate program who will complete their junior year before being awarded a fellowship; 2) students in their senior year of a baccalaureate program; and 3) students who have completed their baccalaureate degree and are enrolled in a program leading to a master's, Ph.D., or equivalent degree. Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled in an accredited U.S. institution of higher education working on a degree full time and planning to enter the transportation profession after completing their higher education. They select 1 or more projects from a current list of research projects underway at various DOT facilities; the research will be conducted with academic supervision provided by a faculty advisor from their home university (which grants academic credit for the research project) and with technical direction provided by the DOT staff. Specific requirements for the target projects vary; most require engineering backgrounds, but others involve transportation planning, information management, public administration, physics, materials science, statistical analysis, operations research, chemistry, economics, technology transfer, urban studies, geography, and urban and regional planning. The DOT encourages students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) to apply for these grants. Eligibility Requirements: To enter an official Miss America Preliminary Pageant, candidates must meet certain basic requirements and agree to abide by all the rules of the local, state, and national Miss America Pageants. Eligibility Requirements: Eligible to compete are students in grades 9-12 in a high school within an area of a sponsoring chapter of the National Management Association (NMA). Contestants prepare speeches of 4 to 6 minutes on a topic related to the economic system of the United States. Non-economic issues (social, medical, environmental, political, etc.) may be utilized, but only if focused on business/entrepreneurial issues or approaches. No audio/visual aids are allowed with the presentations, and speeches may not be read verbatim, although notes are allowed. Winners of the chapter contests advance to council competition, from which winners proceed to compete in 1 of the 6 areas of the NMA. The 6 area winners then compete in the national contest. Speeches are judged on the basis of content (50%), delivery (30%), and language (20%). Deadline for Receipt: Chapter contests are held in January or early February of each year, council contests in February or March, area contests in April and May, and the national contest in September or October. Additional Information: All costs for prizes and transportation at chapter and council levels are paid by the individual chapters and councils.
