CHS - Bursary Program Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To bring young volunteers into the CHS while recognizing the importance of education. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must possess academic proficiency; must have experience in community service at volunteer level; and must possess leadership qualities. Criteria: Priority is given to those who have financial needs.
Funds Avail.: $4,000. To Apply: Applicant must provide three letters of reference with the application stating the abilities and suitability of the candidate; must provide a letter from his/her physician or any medical authority confirming his/her medical status; must submit an original essay (500 words) to emphasize the logical thinking and adequate writing skills of the applicant; and must submit the original transcript of grades for the last year in secondary school. Application forms are available from the website. Deadline: April 30.
CHS - Mature Student Bursary Program Scholarships (Professional Development/Scholarship)
Purpose: To encourage educational pursuits of students with hemophilia. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be at least 30 years of age. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on application materials and financial need as reviewed by a committee of academics and lay persons.
Funds Avail.: $4,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a detailed budget showing their source of income and their projected expenses for a year of study at the institution of their choice; must submit an essay of intent describing past employment and assessment of new career; must provide three letters of reference with their application, none of which may be from a relative (such letters should attest to the abilities and suitability of the candidate for the program being applied for as well as act as a character reference for the candidate); must provide a separate letter from their physician or some medical authority confirming their medical status regarding eligibility to this program. Deadline: April 30.
CHS Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To bring young volunteers into the CHS while recognizing the importance of education. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must possess academic proficiency (GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale); must have experience in community service at a volunteer level; and must possess leadership qualities. Criteria: Priority is given to those who might not be able to succeed in a vocational course requiring strenuous physical labor.
Funds Avail.: $4,000. To Apply: Applicant must provide
three letters of reference with the application stating the abilities and suitability of the candidate; must provide a letter from his/her physician or any medical authority confirming his/her medical status; must submit an original essay (500 words) to emphasize the logical thinking and adequate writing skills of the applicant; and must submit the original transcript of grades for the last year in secondary school. Peter Stainsby Awards (Postgraduate/Award/Prize)
Purpose: To encourage fire safety awareness by providing financial assistance to students attending an approved Fire Safety Technology Course in a post-secondary school in Canada. Focus: Fires and fire prevention. Qualif.: Applicants must be enrolled in a Fire Protection Technology course at a Canadian college or university; must have excelled with outstanding leadership, motivation and technical skills and an overall academic proficiency; must be students entering the second and subsequent years of an approved course. Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated based on academic achievement and letter of application as required by the association.
Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit their academic grades together with completed application form to: School of Fire Protection Technology, Senera College, 150 Finch Ave., E Toronto, ON M2J 2X5.
