To provide financial assistance to Canadian undergraduate students majoring in a field related to Ukrainian or Ukrainian Canadian studies.

Title of Award: Leo J. Krysa Family Undergraduate Scholarship Area, Field, or Subject: Canadian studies; Education; European studies; Humanities; Social sciences; Ukrainian studies Level of Education for which Award is Granted: Four Year College Number Awarded: 1 each year. Funds Available: The maximum stipend is $C3,500. Duration: 8 months; nonrenewable.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are entering the final year of study for an undergraduate degree at a college or university in Canada. Applicants' programs must emphasize Ukrainian and/or Ukrainian Canadian studies, through a combination of Ukrainian and east European or Canadian courses in education, history, humanities, or the social sciences. Selection is based on overall academic record, performance in Ukrainian-content courses, a working sample, and community involvement. Deadline for Receipt: February of each year. Additional Information: Recipients may attend any Canadian university.

Title of Award: Clan MacBean Foundation Grants Area, Field, or Subject: General studies/Field of study not specified; Scottish studies Level of Education for which Award is Granted: Undergraduate Number Awarded: 1 or more each year. Funds Available: Grants up to $5,000 are available. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, room and board, printing and publishing costs, historical research fees, and/or initial costs in establishing a project. Duration: 1 year.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to students who have completed at least 2 years of college. Applicants may be either working on a degree or conducting a specific project. If they are working on a degree, their course of study must relate directly to Scottish culture or be in a field that leads directly to the improvement and benefit of the "Human Family." If they conducting a specific project, it must reflect direct involvement in the preservation or enhancement of Scottish culture or contribute directly to the improvement and benefit of the "Human Family." Deadline for Receipt: April of each year.

To provide financial assistance to college students from selected states who are of Italian Catholic heritage and are interested in studying Italian language, literature, or culture.

Title of Award: Mario Cugia Italian Studies Scholarship Area, Field, or Subject: Foreign languages; Italian studies; Literature Level of Education for which Award is Granted: Four Year College Number Awarded: Varies each year; recently, 20 of these scholarships were awarded, including both third-year and fourth-year students. Funds Available: The stipend is $600 per year for third-year students or $1,000 for fourth-year students. Duration: 1 year; may be renewed for the fourth year of university study.

Eligibility Requirements: College students who live within Catholic Dioceses in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Illinois are eligible to apply if they are of Catholic and Italian descent (or whose non-Italian parents are members of the Italian Catholic Federation). Applicants must be entering their third year of study, have at least a 3.2 GPA, and be majoring in Italian language, Italian literature, or another area of Italian art, history, or culture. They must submit a personal statement explaining their future plans and Italian origin (or federation membership affiliation of their non-Italian parent or guardian). Selection is based on scholastic achievement, financial need, leadership role, faculty recommendations, and character references. Deadline for Receipt: July of each year.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to students of Portuguese descent who are sophomores, juniors, or seniors at 4-year colleges or universities with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Applicants must be California residents who are interested or involved in the Luso-American community and have taken or will enroll in Portuguese language classes. Selection is based on promise of success in college, financial need, qualities of leadership, vocational promise, and sincerity of purpose. Deadline for Receipt: February of each year.

Funds Available: Stipends are at least $1,500 each. Duration: 1 year; recipients may reapply.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to residents of Connecticut who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. At least 1 great-grandparent must be of Portuguese ancestry. Applicants must be attending, or planning to attend, a college or university as a full-time undergraduate or full- or part-time graduate student to study the Portuguese language or disseminate Portuguese culture. Along with their application, they qualified students must supply an essay describing financial need, an essay detailing proof of Portuguese ancestry and interest in the Portuguese language and culture, 2 letters of recommendation, their high school or college transcripts, a copy of the FAFSA form or their most recent federal income tax return, and their SAT report. Selection is based on financial need and academic record. Deadline for Receipt: March of each year. Additional Information: Undergraduate recipients must attend school on a full-time basis; graduate students may attend school on a part-time basis. No recipient may be awarded more than 4 scholarships from the foundation.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to 1) U.S. citizens who reside in the mid-Atlantic region (defined as the District of Columbia and the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia); and 2) British subjects who were born in Scotland. Applicants must be enrolled full time as a junior, senior, or graduate student at a college or university in the United States or Scotland. The proposed course of study must contribute to their intellectual development and economic independence. Special attention is given to applicants whose study relates to Scottish history or culture. They must be able to demonstrate their Scottish descent and must submit a statement of their plans and goals. Financial need is considered in the selection process. Deadline for Receipt: April of each year.

Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to all residents of Florida interested in participating in an exchange program in Sweden. Applicants may also propose to study in the United States, if the studies specifically emphasize Sweden and Swedish aspects, including 1) Swedish language; 2) Swedish culture or traditions; 3) environmental science; 4) a health care program promoting better health for women and children; or 5) handicraft, art, glass art, music, literature, or design. Study proposals must be well-defined in time and content. Along with their application, they must submit a transcript from college, university, or vocational school; curriculum vitae; project proposal, describing the planned studies, length of studies, and goals; financial statement; and letter of recommendation from an instructor. Deadline for Receipt: January of each year. Additional Information: Within 3 months after the end of studies or the project, the recipient must report to the scholarship committee or, if possible, accept an invitation to an organization meeting to share the experience.
